Personalized Care from
Local Experts.

We’re not a call center or a referral form. We are a husband-and-wife team from Central North Carolina who left our old careers to do work that genuinely matters.

our story

We weren't looking for just another career — we were looking for work that means something.

“Jim and I were ready for a more meaningful chapter in our careers — something centered on people, not just sitting behind a screen.”

— Amy Kappelman

That pivot brought us to Senior Care Authority. For Amy, it was also deeply personal. When her dad lost his wife of 65 years, Amy helped navigate what came next — the questions, the options, the emotional weight of it all. That experience didn’t just change her perspective; it gave her a real-world understanding of exactly what families like yours are going through right now.

That’s why this work feels different for us. We’re not advisors because we read about it. We’re advisors because we’ve lived it, and we know how much a steady, knowledgeable person in your corner actually matters.

Why we do this

What makes us different from a website, a hotline, or a large referral service.

Some national platforms are primarily call-center and database driven. We are local. We know the buildings, the people, the care differences, and the practical realities families run into after the brochure stage.

We're local — actually local

We live and work in Central North Carolina. We know Greensboro, Burlington, Asheboro, Southern Pines, and surrounding communities — not as zip codes, but as neighbors.

One family, one advisor

You talk to Jim or Amy — not a different person each time. We carry your situation in our heads from the first conversation through move-in day.

We go with you on tours

We don't just hand you a list. We schedule visits and, if you'd like, we come along — helping you know the right questions to ask and what to watch for.

No cost to you,
no catch

Our services are free to families in most cases. Senior living communities compensate us if a family moves in—but that doesn’t change your cost or shape our guidance. Our business is built on trust and referrals.

The experience and training behind the advice we give.

Jim and Amy completed three months of formal training before opening their doors. They didn’t jump into this — they prepared for it, backed by an organization that’s been placing families successfully for over 15 years.

Certified Senior Advisor

Jim holds the CSA designation — a nationally recognized credential in senior care advising.

NPRA Raleigh Chapter Member
Active member of the National Placement and Referral Alliance — part of a professional network committed to ethical advising.
Certified Dementia Practitioner

Specialized training in Alzheimer’s and dementia care — so memory care guidance comes from real knowledge.

Local ownership. National backing.

Senior Care Authority has been a trusted name in senior care since 2009 — with a nationwide network of experienced advisors, proven processes, and resources that go far beyond what a solo advisor could access alone. Jim and Amy own the Central NC franchise. This is their business, their community, and their family's reputation on the line. The national network gives them depth — but what you experience is always local and personal.
